Abstract

|
|
The nm23 has been proposed as a metastasis suppressor gene in some neoplasms. The transforming growth factor ¥â1(TGF-¥â1) can enhance th eaggressiveness of human colorectal cell lines in vitro and in vivo.
This study aimed to determine the nm23 and TGF-¥â1 expressions in colorectal adenocarcinoma and to correlate the expression of these genes with clinicopathological variables.
No significant relationship was observed between the nm23 expression and tumor stage, lymph node involvement or depth of invasion. But the nm23 expression closely related to histopathologic differentiation On the other hand, no significant
relationship
was observed between the TGF-¥â1 expression and tumor differentiation or depth of invasion. However the TGF-¥â1 expression and tumor differentiation or depth of invasion. However the TGF-¥â1 expression was closely related to tumor stage and lymph
node
involvement.
We conclude that nm23 expression in human colorectal adenocarcinoma was not significantly associated with prognosis, but TGF-¥â1 expression was closely associated with metastatic potential. More studies are needed to determine whether TGF-¥â1
gene
is a
clinically valuable prognostic factor.
